Our family

Rooted in Oceanside

Gus lives in Oceanside with his wife and their two sons, one in college and one in high school. They're a beach family who care about doing things the right way: eating organic, treating people fairly, and keeping things positive.

That's the spirit of the school. You'll be treated the way we'd want our own boys treated when they learn something new.

Frequently asked questions

DMV details are summarized from the official CA DMV site and Motorcycle Handbook. Rules can change, so please confirm at dmv.ca.gov.

Can I take the DMV motorcycle (M1) skills test on a scooter?
The skills test is taken on a two-wheeled motorcycle, and a seated scooter like the PCX is one. The DMV's stand-up "motorized scooter" category is different and can't be used for a skills test. Bikes without a clutch and gears don't do the gear-shift ride.
What happens at the skills test?
A pre-trip inspection of the controls, then a serpentine through cones, circle rides and a slow ride within marked lines. If you've never held any license and are applying for motorcycle-only, an observation road test may also be required.
What do I do with the DMV directly?
Submit the application and fee, pass the vision exam and knowledge tests, and schedule your motorcycle driving test (appointment only, online or 1-800-777-0133). The DMV requires proof of insurance for the test.
I'm under 21. Can you help?
California requires riders under 21 to complete the California Motorcyclist Safety Program (CMSP) training course, which also waives the DMV skills test. So we're the best fit for adults 21 and over. Riders 21+ can also choose CMSP; see motorcyclesafetyca.com.
Do you guarantee I'll pass?
No, and we'd be wary of anyone who does. We'll help you practice until you feel ready.
Do I need my own helmet?
California requires a U.S. DOT-compliant helmet. [GUS: provided or bring your own]
Where are lessons?
In Oceanside: [MEETING LOCATION], shared when you book.
